The Mint Sauce x Finn Hopson Collab.
This has been long talked about and now it’s finally here.
Finn Hopson is a photographer based in Brighton and Jo has long been a fan of his images of the South Downs. Finn, like Jo, has spent most of his life in the lee of these same hills and spent a lot of his time bouncing around them on bicycles and so they have developed a shared appreciation of a hedge line, a wind bent tree and the way a ploughed field curves into shadow and there’s not a ride goes by where Jo doesn’t hear himself think “That’s a very Finn Hopson tree/field/fence”.
Jo and Finn’s meet cute was on a rare snowy day on the Downs several years ago. Jo was out on his mountainbike, obviously, and Finn was also on his bike but out to take photographs in a near blizzard. “You must be Finn Hopson” remarked Jo, as he was the only person who would be out in such conditions taking a photograph of that white out scene. “You must be Jo Burt” replied Finn, as he would be the only other person out on a bike in such weather. And an instant connection was made.
Every time they have met since then they’re talked about a collaboration, combining both of their visions of the South Downs, as it seemed like the natural thing to do and it took Mason Cycles organising an evening involving them chatting about interpreting their love of the hills via camera and crayon to make this into a reality.
Via the magic of electronic wizardry Mint has been superimposed into one of Finn’s images of the South Downs, a cartoon sheep flying down a real chalk trail through a bumpy field desperately trying not to safety brake.
